It was a glancing blow with about $1,500 in property damage. The Highway Patrol officer, who had previously been injured on the job and was on her way to receive chiropractic treatment at the time of the accident, ultimately had both a neck and back operation. She was then forced to medically retire from the Highway Patrol. There was a dispute about the force of the impact and whether her problems were due to the pre-existing condition for the subject accident. Her medical bills were in the vicinity of $150,000 and her income loss past and future was in the vicinity of $1 million. The matter settled a week before trial for $3.5 million.
